An Invitation to Come Home to Yourself

Life has a way of drawing us further and further away from ourselves. Between responsibilities, expectations, relationships and the constant demands of everyday living, we can lose touch with our own needs, our inner wisdom and the quiet voice that tells us what truly matters.

The Way Back is a full-day immersive experience created to help you reconnect with those parts of yourself.

Held in the beautiful natural surroundings of Coastal Horse Care Unit, this experience brings together the extraordinary wisdom of horses, the restorative presence of nature, nervous-system awareness, guided self-exploration and meaningful human connection.

Facilitated by Gaylene Diedericks and Kathrine Bekker-Smith, the day offers an opportunity to explore how you relate to yourself, how you move through the world, what your body has been communicating and what becomes possible when you begin to listen more deeply.

This is an experiential journey. Rather than simply talking about self-awareness, you will have opportunities to experience it through your body, your senses, your interactions with the herd and the reflections that emerge throughout the day.

What Can You Expect?

Connecting with the Wisdom of the Herd

One of the most extraordinary parts of The Way Back is the opportunity to spend time with the rescued horses of Coastal Horse Care Unit.

Horses are deeply perceptive, socially intelligent animals whose lives are shaped by communication, relationships, boundaries, trust and an awareness of their surroundings.

Through carefully facilitated, ground-based encounters, we explore what their behaviour can teach us about our own ways of relating, communicating and responding to the world.

You will be invited to observe the herd, notice the subtle exchanges between horses and become more aware of your own responses in their presence.

What happens when you approach a horse? What do you notice in your body when a horse approaches you? How do you experience personal space, connection, uncertainty or trust?

The horses are free to choose whether they engage, creating an environment where consent, respect and authentic connection become something we can experience rather than simply discuss.

There is no riding involved, and absolutely no previous horse experience is necessary.

Understanding Your Nervous System

Our nervous systems influence how we experience safety, connection, stress, relationships and the demands of everyday life.

Throughout the day, we introduce gentle, accessible practices that help you become more aware of what is happening within your body.

Through grounding, breath awareness, sensory exploration and guided exercises, you will begin to recognise your own responses to different situations and explore ways of supporting yourself through them.

The intention is to develop a greater capacity to recognise, experience and move through emotions, while strengthening your relationship with your own internal signals.

Rediscovering Your Strengths and Inner Wisdom

So much of our lives is spent responding to what is expected of us that we can forget the qualities, strengths and values that make us who we are.

Through guided reflection and strengths-based exploration, we invite you to look more closely at your relationship with yourself.

You will have opportunities to consider the patterns you carry, the roles you have taken on, the boundaries you hold and the parts of yourself that are asking for greater expression.

These reflections are woven naturally into the day, allowing the experiences with the horses, the natural environment and your own observations to inform your understanding.

Creativity, Nourishment and Connection

The Way Back also celebrates the simple, beautiful experience of being human.

Together, we will share a creative food experience, preparing grazing boards before enjoying a nourishing lunch.

This is an opportunity to connect with others, enjoy conversation, laughter and creativity, and experience the pleasure of making something together.

There will also be time to enjoy the natural surroundings, reflect quietly and appreciate the beauty of the environment.

Meditation, Reflection and Integration

During the afternoon, we move into a deeper space of personal reflection.

Through guided meditation, gentle introspection and meaningful exercises, you will have the opportunity to explore what the day’s experiences have brought into your awareness.

We will look at how the insights you have gained can be carried into your everyday life, your relationships, your choices and the way you care for yourself.

The day concludes with an opportunity to reflect on what you are taking home with you, and how you would like to continue nurturing your connection with yourself.

The Journey of the Day

Morning — Arriving, Grounding and Connecting

We begin with a warm welcome, refreshments and an introduction to the day. Gentle grounding and body-awareness practices prepare us for our time with the herd, where we explore presence, communication, boundaries and connection through observation and carefully facilitated encounters.

Midday — Creating, Nourishing and Sharing

After our time with the horses, we move into a creative shared-food experience, followed by lunch and time to enjoy the surroundings and connect with fellow participants.

Afternoon — Remembering and Integrating

The afternoon brings guided meditation, strengths-based reflection, personal exploration and opportunities to consider how the day’s discoveries can become meaningful changes in everyday life.

Who Is This Experience For?

The Way Back is for anyone who feels drawn to reconnect more deeply with themselves, explore their relationship with the natural world or gain a greater understanding of their own emotional and relational patterns.

You may be navigating change, feeling disconnected from yourself, questioning what comes next or simply longing for an experience that brings greater meaning, awareness and connection into your life.

You do not need to be experiencing a particular difficulty to benefit from this day. Curiosity, openness and a willingness to explore are enough.

All activities are gently facilitated, and your personal boundaries and choices are respected throughout.

Your Facilitators

Gaylene Diedericks and Kathrine Bekker-Smith bring together their experience in soulful personal exploration, strengths-based coaching, nervous-system awareness and conscious connection with horses.

Together, they create an environment where people are invited to explore themselves through a combination of practical understanding, intuitive awareness, embodied experiences and the wisdom of the natural world.
